Start with evidence, not a package
If radiators are heating unevenly or the system seems slow to warm the home, it is reasonable to ask whether cleaning would help. It is not reasonable to assume the answer before the fault and system condition have been assessed.
A power flush is intended to help remove deposits and contamination from a suitable heating system using specialist equipment and circulating cleaning fluid. It is not a repair for every possible heating problem.
Question one: what points towards contamination?
Ask what observations or findings support the proposed treatment. A useful explanation should connect the symptoms to the recommended work and acknowledge other possible causes.
For example, cold radiator sections can be associated with circulation problems, but the pattern alone is not a full diagnosis. Our cold radiator guide explains how to describe what you have noticed without dismantling anything.
Question two: is the system suitable?
The condition of pipework, radiators, valves and other components matters. Tell the engineer about known leaks, previous repairs or areas of the system that have been problematic.
Ask whether weaknesses or unrelated faults need addressing separately. Age alone does not provide a complete answer, and cleaning cannot make damaged components sound.
Question three: what exactly is included?
Clarify the parts of the system being treated, access needs, expected interruption to heating and what checks will take place afterwards. Discuss whether any associated repairs or protective measures form part of the quotation.
If cleaning is being considered alongside a boiler replacement, ask how the proposed preparation relates to the new appliance’s installation requirements. Not every system needs an identical process.
Question four: what results are realistic?
The aim should be explained in relation to the actual problem. Avoid treating a generic percentage saving, fixed temperature improvement or guaranteed cure as evidence about your home.
If the issue is a failed control or another component fault, heating repairs may be needed instead of, or in addition to, cleaning. Understand the limitations before agreeing the work.
Question five: how is the quotation tailored?
Provide your postcode, approximate radiator count, boiler details if known and a description of the symptoms. Mention access restrictions, recent system changes and whether heating and hot water are currently available.
A clear quotation should describe the proposed scope. The size of the system and condition of the installation can affect the work, so a universal website price may not be a reliable guide.

This guide is for planning an enquiry. It is not an instruction to connect flushing equipment, add chemicals or alter a heating system yourself.
